The personal financial planning program combines course work in personal finance, family relationships and decision making, consumer rights, insurance, investments, sales, retirement and estate planning, economics, and accounting. Emphasis is placed on understanding financial products and how they work, as well as the role of family in financial decisions. The program offers financial planning courses that satisfy CFP® Board's education requirement for the CFP®/CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® certification.

The program also offers financial counseling courses that satisfy the education requirements for the Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC®) exam sponsored by the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education.

Kansas State University does not certify individuals to use the AFC®, CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER®, and CFP® certification marks. AFC ® is solely granted by the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education. CFP® certification is solely granted by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards to individuals who, in addition to completing an education requirement such as this CFP Board-Registered program, have met ethics, experience, and examination requirements.
